Help Jax the Bernese Mountain Dog Heal After Emergency Surgery
Hi friends, family, and fellow dog lovers —
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and hopeful spirit. Our sweet 8-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Jax, just went through a terrifying emergency and major surgery.
It all started on May 30th when Jax wasn’t acting like himself. He was in visible pain, lethargic, and just not our usual playful pup. We rushed him to the local vet where he underwent three x-rays. Unfortunately, the results showed signs of something serious, and we were immediately referred to the emergency animal hospital.
By the time we arrived there on Saturday, May 31st, we had already spent $1,000 — and we were completely unprepared for the news that followed.
At the emergency vet, they gave us a treatment estimate between $5,827 and $10,487. I was in tears in the waiting room, sitting beside Jax, completely overwhelmed and scared. With the cost of living these days, this was an enormous and unexpected financial hit — but there was no way we were going to give up on him.
The diagnosis was heartbreaking: Jax had a foreign object causing a severe obstruction in both his stomach and lower intestines, and without emergency surgery, his life was at risk. He was taken into surgery around 3:00 AM on June 1st — and thankfully, he pulled through.
Today, Jax is home and recovering, but he’s not out of the woods yet. He’s sore and healing slowly, but he’s our fighter and we’re giving him all the love and care we can.
If you’re able to help us in any way, we would be forever grateful. Whether it's a donation, a share, or simply a kind word — it all makes a difference. Every little bit goes toward easing the burden of these medical bills and helping us focus on what matters most: helping Jax heal.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting us during this unexpected journey. We love this dog with all our hearts — and we’re so thankful he’s still here with us.
With love,
Shelly Gonsalves & family
