SAVE JACKIE'S LIFE

Writing this Go Fund Me appeal has been a bitter and somewhat overwhelming task in trying to help someone that I have known for almost 40 years! It brings our fears and pain to the absolute forefront, and brings with it a reckoning that we are often able to bypass in our daily interactions. At times, it also pierces a sense of helplessness into our minds and encroaches on even the strongest of faith.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Rhooms, is a vivacious, tender, loving and God-serving woman. Like us, she has hopes of aging gracefully and enjoying life to its fullest. However, these dreams have been temporarily shattered by the diagnosis of a rare type of blood cancer called Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia in 2021.

The encouraging news is that the 5-year survival rate for people with Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia is about 78% if detected and treated quickly. As such, January 2023 is the estimated start date of Jackie's final round of treatment and is quite frankly her only option to survive.

Jackie has had to stop working as a result of her weakened condition, all of her savings have been spent on treatments thus far and insurance does not cover the total cost of medication. In addition to the physical toll, Jackie has also suffered from the emotional drain that comes with having this type of disease and the trauma of knowing she cannot afford this final round of treatment on her own. Yet still... even when she withered to a 90lb frame, unable to walk or function independently... Jackie managed to share her contagious laugh and smile, praying and caring for others during the day; but silently masking her tears and fears alone at night.

We know that times are hard and the economy is uncertain, however, we have come to the realization that she needs financial help from YOU.
