Hey everyone. Our names are Ben and Abby. Our kitties, Isaac and Isabel, are in rough shape and we need help.
On 5/2 they were admitted to the kitty ICU in quarantine. They have a suspected case of a pretty rare disease, tularemia. Isabel is close to organ failure, and Isaac isn’t far behind.
Towards the end of April, Isaac was being the good boy that he was and caught a mouse. He didn’t even eat it, just left it as a surprise for us. Our cats are 100% indoors, so this is a very rare occurrence.
Last Thursday, Isaac skipped dinner. Then the next day he skipped breakfast. He became quite lethargic. Then, Isabel started to show similar symptoms over the weekend. After a visit to our vet, we put them on two different antibiotics and tried everything we could to get them to eat and drink water.
When nothing was working, we had no choice but to bring them to the U of MN emergency vet clinic. They agreed that this was a very likely case of tularemia, and we had them admitted immediately.
We were left with a choice of taking them home to die, or agreeing to a $7000 estimated bill. We had to leave a $5200 deposit on a credit card to admit them. To be frank, we do not have the means to pay this off, and this might only be the start. Our dogs, in addition to both of us, are at risk of having contracted tularemia too.
$7000 covers the estimated bill for ICU care and treatment for two days. We do not know if this will be enough, but we are hoping and praying that it will be.
Anything helps, and we would be incredibly grateful for whatever you can spare. Thank you so much.
