Save Inglis House
To our community,
With your support and activism, we have managed to secure legal representation by posting a retainer payment, and now, more than ever, we have so much to fight for.
Inglis has officially submitted their sale agreement to the office of the Deputy Attorney General of Charitable Trusts and Endowments in Philadelphia as of last month.
We are demanding that both parties involved in the sale (Inglis and Tryko Partners) demonstrate that they have Inglis House residents’ best interest in mind — that no decisions have or will be made at our expense for the pursuit of the bottom line. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case. Tryko (the buyer) will not guarantee nursing staffing ratios. They will not promise they will maintain Inglis’ status as a wheelchair-exclusive community. They will not ensure maintenance of our specialized programs. None of this is surprising. Tryko Partners is a private equity firm. One simple google search “private equity firms in nursing homes” reveals the horrors these real estate investment companies unleash on facilities like ours. Most of the time, sales of nursing homes go completely unnoticed and are not contested. Unfortunately for these prospective buyers, we will not sit idly as they destroy nearly 150 years of mission, tradition, and precedent.
We believe that the Attorney General and the Court must investigate these decisions — were they made with fiduciary responsibility? Did the leadership foresee this outcome and sprint towards it? Was there any attempt whatsoever to preserve Inglis House — to protect the residents and the mission — in the face of financial difficulty? Were conflicts of interest for those in powerful positions at play when voting on the decision to sell Inglis House? Have the donors been misled for how their funds are distributed?
We acknowledge that these questions are very big ones. We need help to answer them. This help comes from a strong legal team, the PA attorney general, and most importantly, from YOU. You - our family members, our friends - the people who have demonstrated that you care about this mission and the people it was meant to serve. You are the people who can spread this message and help us ignite the passion that we need to pursue this fight - the fight to maintain Annie Inglis’ mission - to ensure a place to live life to the fullest with medical care and services. A mission that has changed countless lives for the better. Without Inglis, we are lost - there is no where else to go.
Inglis House is worth fighting for — thank you for showing us that you feel the same way.
Our representatives estimate our costs will be closer to $50,000. For any one of us, this is an astronomical amount of money. But, with your support, we can make this happen. We can crowdsource to fight against all of the the injustices that have propelled the sale of Inglis House. We can finally get answers to all of our questions - - how did the leadership land us here and what comes next? How can we, together, protect every current and future resident from the greed of for profit nursing homes? Every penny that we raise in excess of what is needed for legal team expenses (if any) will be put towards the residents of Inglis House. We will work together, with your input as a community (using the contact information you provide with a donation), to determine the best way to direct excess funds for the residents.
Thank you, again, for your support and your faith in our mission. We appreciate you more than words can express. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
