Indy came to us from a shelter carrying more than anyone should have to carry alone.

He has a large abscess that will require veterinary treatment, surgery, medication, and careful aftercare. Behind that injury is pain, discomfort, and a long road that most people will never fully see. But for Indy, that road has now begun — and he does not have to walk it alone anymore.

At Joshua Tree Reptile Haven, we take in tortoises and turtles that have nowhere else to go.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tortoise and turtle sanctuary and a forever home for rescued tortoises and turtles in need of specialized care. We do not rehome them or pass them along. When we say yes, we are saying yes for the long haul — yes to the transport, the medical care, the healing, the daily work, and the lifelong commitment that follows.

That is what Indy deserves.

Tortoises are often misunderstood. They hide pain well. Their needs are specialized. And when they are sick, injured, or neglected, they can suffer quietly for a very long time. By the time animals like Indy get help, the need is often urgent and the care is rarely simple.

But Indy is safe now. He is here. And now we fight for him.
