Help Save Iconic Vegan Café: A Community Treasure Worth Fighting For
For more than four years, Otis Ross, owner of Iconic Vegan Café in the Oak Cliff community of Dallas, Texas, has been doing far more than serving exceptional plant-based food—he has been transforming lives.
Otis's entrepreneurial journey began in 2019 with Uncle Otis Vegan Ice Cream, a successful vegan ice cream business that operated through pop-up events across America. Through hard work, perseverance, and a vision for healthier communities, he seized the opportunity to open Iconic Vegan Café, bringing nutritious, affordable, plant-based meals to a neighborhood where healthy dining options are extremely limited.
His mission has always been bigger than food.
Iconic Vegan Café was created to make healthy eating accessible to everyone, especially underserved and low-income families who deserve the same opportunities to nourish themselves with wholesome meals. In a community often described as a food desert, Otis has become a beacon of hope, proving that healthy food can also be delicious, affordable, and welcoming.
Beyond the kitchen, Otis is deeply committed to developing the next generation. He mentors young adults by teaching them culinary skills, restaurant operations, leadership, professionalism, and the discipline it takes to build a successful business. For many, Iconic Vegan Café has become more than a workplace—it has become a place of opportunity, guidance, and purpose.
His dedication has not gone unnoticed. Otis has been honored with both a Community Leader Award and Restaurant of the Year, recognizing his unwavering commitment to serving others and strengthening the Oak Cliff community.
Today, however, this incredible mission is in jeopardy.
Like many small business owners, Otis wears every hat imaginable. He is the chef, manager, trainer, mentor, purchaser, delivery driver, marketer, and business owner. While dedicating countless hours to keeping the restaurant running and serving his community, several state sales tax filings were unintentionally overlooked.
As a result, the business is now facing significant penalties and the possibility of being shut down if these obligations are not resolved immediately.
At the same time, the rising cost of food, produce, utilities, and operating expenses has placed additional financial strain on the restaurant, making it increasingly difficult for this small business to recover on its own.
We are asking our community, friends, family, and supporters to help us raise $12,876.29 by July 27, 2026 to satisfy these tax obligations and keep Iconic Vegan Café open.
Your contribution will do far more than save a restaurant.
It will:
* Preserve jobs for the dedicated employees who depend on Iconic Vegan Café.
* Allow Otis to continue mentoring young adults and preparing them for successful careers.
* Keep healthy, affordable food available in an underserved community.
* Protect a business that has consistently poured love, service, and hope back into the people of Oak Cliff.
Every donation—no matter the amount—makes a meaningful difference. And if you're unable to give financially, sharing this campaign with your friends, family, coworkers, churches, and social networks is another powerful way to help.
Otis has spent years investing in others. Today, we're asking our community to invest in him.
Let's come together to keep the doors of Iconic Vegan Café open so this mission of health, hope, mentorship, and community can continue for many years to come.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and your support.
Together, we can save Iconic Vegan Café.
