Dear Harlem and all those who love it;
A community favorite restaurant, "Home Sweet Harlem," has been a cornerstone of this community for over 20 years.
The plant and art filled oasis has felt like home to many of our wonderful guests for years. Home Sweet Harlem has hosted School Group gatherings, live Jazz and R&B, Paint and Sip events, featured Guest Chef nights, Salons. Baby Showers, Mom Group Meetups, Graduations, Repasts, Fundraisers in addition to Catering and Weekend Brunch.
Oh those cheese biscuits!
Donna, the restaurant owner is also the chef. She has a passion for cooking traditional and fusion food from the Pan American Diaspora. food. Her warm hospitality and unwavering dedication to our community has been the heart and soul of "Home Sweet Harlem". Despite many challenges over the years...life happens...she has persevered through the challenges with admirable grit and tenacity.
We’re asking for collective support to ensure this wonderful restaurant remains our “Home” for years to come. Your generosity and support would mean everything!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Pamela and the Home Sweet Harlem Crew
*Note from Donna-
Thank you, thank you for the support!
There are people who have reached out to us looking for ways to help Home Sweet Harlem AND other local eateries.
Neighbors have posted the GoFundMe in their buildings' newsletter. Donations have come in from as far away as Montana and Great Britain.
Local businesses (Best Graphics Press, Red Kup Cafe, Oh Craft! Beer and Wine, Harlem Public, Sister's Uptown Bookstore) have posted flyers in the business or posted the link on Instagram!
It's wonderful to know that the community cares!
There are too many closed eateries . Uptown, downtown.
Probably all over the state and the country.
Supporting local businesses is crucial right now..
Here are some ways to support:
*Order directly from your favorite spot, either by dining in, picking up, or using the restaurant's delivery service. This ensures the restaurant will receive the full profit from the sale.
*Leave Positive Reviews- positive reviews on Google, Yelp, and Trip Advisor can attract new customers and improve a restaurants online presence.
*Engage on Social Media- Follow, like, share your neighborhood restaurants, cafes, or bar. (Millennials and Gen Zs...you know what to do! Xennials, this message is for you as well.
*Spread the word- Word of mouth can make or break a business. Talk to your neighbors, your co-workers, your besties. Call your cousin! Use your network to keep businesses viable in the community.
Our goal is to continue with Weekend Brunch, Catering, and using Home Sweet Harlem as an Interdisciplinary Events Space.
Follow us, subscribe to our Newletter, and please spread the message to your contacts.
Please visit us soon.
Thank you.
**Another update from Donna
Hey!
We appreciate the support we've received from our community!
It's thrilling to see faces from the past again.
Thank you all for continuing to spread the word!
We're excited about rebuilding the front portion of our restaurant that was most affected by water damage.
New security gates, windows, the bar, some sheet rock, painting and repointing.
I'll keep you posted with any progress.
Thank you again,
Donna
***Dear Community,
It's been months since I've posted an update.
I'll be in touch on a regular from now on!
I was unsure about asking for donations to help my business until recently. Loans yes, but donations? I still shied away from promoting the Gofundme even though friends, staff, strangers encouraged me to spread the word.
Keep the story alive, spread the word, and don't stop talking!
Well, I'm talking again and open to magic of Gofundme.
We are planning some repairs that
have been on hold...painting, sanding furniture, etc.
The building is undergoing repairs and there is scaffolding in front.
My precious planrts are desperate for sunlight.
We hope to have a new awning by May.
We always look forward to seeing our fantastic community on the Weekends. Book your Mothers and Fathers Day gathering Baby Shower or Graduation Party early.
We're already planning a few fun Events for the Summer.
Thank you all again for your support.
Peace,
-Donna
