Our rescue pup, Herby, had an emergency vet visit last night due to issues urinating, and the more we discover, the more expensive the solution becomes.
Herby is a young dog, we think between 3 and 4 years old. He is a 22lb Chihuahua-Pug (Chug) Mix. He was surrendered to the local SPCA with very little information given, so we don't have a comprehensive medical history and can't confirm his age 100%. We adopted him in February 2025 and have fallen in love with this little guy. He's the sweetest, cuddliest, guy we've ever met, and seeing him in this state is just heartbreaking.
After over 24hrs at the emergency vet, two failed catheter attempts, failed scope attempt, difficulty getting a urine sample, an ultrasound, anesthesia, then a seizure as a result of the propofol, he is in need of a more major surgery than we were expecting - we still don't even know the cause of his urinary issues, but his bladder and urethra are full of crystals, white blood cells, and red blood cells. We are terrified for him.
The vet informed us that they'd need to keep him overnight again, and do a more intensive, invasive surgery in the morning. We were quoted between $10,000 and $12,000, we are coming up short. We cannot afford this on our own, but we also can't afford to lose our boy. Please, if you are willing and able to do so, consider donating even a few dollars to help get Herby the lifesaving medical assistance he needs.
