“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.”
– Kahlil Gibran
***We have just heard that the owner plans to cut down the tree on Friday, May 20th. We know it isn’t realistic to meet our goal by then - would need a miracle - but if this fundraiser gains momentum we can put pressure on the owner to back down, and on the city to act! Please send a respectful email Hedwig Village Mayor Tom Jinks and ask him to make this stop. [email redacted]

My name is Yvonne Seymour, and together with Memorial High School Teens for Green, we are starting a community fundraising effort to save the magnificent and forever irreplaceable heritage oak tree at 902 Constance in Hedwig Village, Texas. This oak is nearly 200 years old.
The funds will go to the city to purchase the property and turn it into an open space pocket park.
Please give any amount toward this effort to save this beautiful, beloved tree. It is one of a pair, and is possibly the oldest tree in the Villages. If you are unable to give, please share. This tree is part of the soul of our community.
This is our last chance. After unprecedented public outcry in December, the owner put the property back on the market. We all hoped an individual buyer would step forward to build around the tree. However, this has not happened. We need to rally together and raise the money. A park created by the community would be such a happy ending for everyone.
This may seem like an impossible amount to raise, but if everyone gives what they can and SHARES this campaign far and wide, it IS possible. Stay hopeful. Take a moment to imagine this sweet park for generations to enjoy. Imagine the cradling limbs of this mighty oak against the sky at sunset. If we hold this image, and if we give and share, we CAN come together as a community and make it happen.
Now is the time to step up in a real way to help. No amount is too small. We need everyone’s help. Here are a few action items:
- If you know someone who may want to match donations, please contact them and message me here.
- If you know anyone who works with a nonprofit or organization or land trust that helps save trees or create parks, please contact them and message me here.
- If you know anyone with fundraising experience who may want to help, please contact them and message me here.
- If you know anyone with a strong social media presence who would be willing to share, please ask them to share!
This is only possible with an incredible and unified grassroots community effort. If you’re reading this, we need you.
We need you.
For those who don't know, our community came together in December to begin the effort to save the oak. We created a petition that garnered thousands of signatures. We were led at a powerful and emotional city council meeting by Memorial High School students who beautifully articulated our collective care, concern and love for this tree.
If you live nearby, please take a moment to drive by and visit it. It's so very beautiful.
Please give as generously as you can.
Please share as widely as you can.
Please join us in believing in this miracle.
THANK YOU.
(Please note: If we are unable to meet our goal, all donations will be refunded. But again, stay hopeful!)
