Save health and lives of students

Hello, I'm Juliet Ziak. I am raising money to buy life-saving mosquito nets for students at Ak' Tenamit school in Guatemala. There are actual Vampire Bats that live in the surrounding forest. At night, these bats fly into the dorms and bite the sleeping students. Yes, real, actual vampire bats!

But it's even worse than you may think. There is a chemical in the bat's saliva that numbs the skin so it's victims don't wake up when they are bitten. There is also a protein in the bat's saliva that acts as an anticoagulant so the bllod flows freely. They can come back night after night and lift the scab to feed again on the srudents. The bats carry many diseases, including rabies! Imagine your only chance for an educaiton and career comes at the cost of this potentially life threatening menence.

On my recent service trip, with the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club, I worked with many high school students living at the school in the rainforest. Without this school, students would only attend small schools in their villages up to sixth grade. The school teaches carreer skills and supports them as they find jobs. This allows them to break the cycle of poverty many Mayan people have been living in for generaions.

There are now 800 students attending and living at Ak' Tenamit. They sleep in dorms without doors to allow air and light to enter. If we can buy moqsuito nets for each student, we can protect them from this common and dramatic health risk. The nets cost just $5 each. If we can raise $4,000, we can provide each student with a life saving moquiito net. How many nets can you help me buy? How many lives can you help me save?
