Guigui is a 13-year-old Brazilian child who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare, progressive, and fatal disease that slowly takes away a child’s strength, day after day, until they can no longer walk, breathe, or live.

There is a treatment capable of changing the course of this disease: a gene therapy called Elevidys.

But it costs millions.

We fought with everything we had to obtain this treatment in Brazil. We took Guigui’s case to the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF).

The answer was no.

Not because the treatment doesn’t exist.

Not because it doesn’t work.

But because it is expensive.

When justice failed, we were left with what no parent should ever have to do: ask the world for help to save their own child.

Time does not wait.

Duchenne does not wait.

And every day without treatment takes a little more away from Guigui.
