In a horrible turn of events transpiring over the last 24 hours, Kyle and I's sweet cat George has needed emergency treatment.
George was in acute distress all day yesterday, starting with vomiting through the morning (an uncharacteristic event for him), and as the day went on it was evident something was very wrong with the little guy. He started shaking and yowling, after trying to mediate it at home we decided it would be best to take him to the hospital to have him checked out there.
Unfortunately, what the doctors discovered was that he has an infection in his gall bladder that is so severe that it has pushed his liver into overdrive, putting him in imminent risk of liver failure. In fact, without the treatment he's received over the past 24 hours he would have faced catastrophic liver failure had they not taken him into the animal ICU.
The testing and monitoring to receive this diagnosis came to $2700.00, which we have emptied our bank accounts to accommodate. They need to keep him for another night of monitoring and testing tonight that will come to an additional $1000.00.
One piece of good news is that his condition has stabilized enough that he may not need a surgical procedure. However, the in-house treatments he will need otherwise have been quoted to us as $3500.00, and if he does need the surgery it will be an additional $5000.00.
Earlier this spring, George had to have 3 teeth removed due to abscesses in his jaw, this came to $4100.00 and completely drained the existing emergency cat fund. Despite spending the summer trying to replenish the fund, We don't have enough at this time to come close to covering this one.
Kyle cannot sell his vehicles quickly enough to come up with the final amounts for the testing and treatment, as that is our only option for the funds now.
There is no way we are giving up on George or even considering the worst-case scenario. Some people might think it's silly to put so much money into an animal, but George isn't just a pet to us, and life without him is not an option worth considering.
Anything anyone can help with, be it $2 or $5, will help a great deal with the immediate payment of $1000 that will go towards the last night of care he has received.
We cannot pick him up unless this amount is paid in full, so we are at the point where we need whatever help we can get.
We will post the bills we have received so far, and the ones that are to come, so that everybody can stay updated as this unfolds.
