Hello, my name is Ashly, just your everyday animal lover.

Gizmo's Story: On Monday, February 17, 2025, while scrolling through Facebook, this injured pitty mix pup came across my page. Assumed he was hit by a car then managed to wander onto this elderly couple's land. Without hesitation, we went to assist. After additional community efforts, we were able to get him seen at a local veterinary hospital. At the initial exam, the vet confirmed that his right front leg is broken, which caused an infection, and his left front leg has a deep gash that is infected. X-rays confirmed that this poor baby had been shot. Gizmo was just shot and left there in pain, in the freezing cold, scared and all alone. He cannot walk or even sit up. The vet informed us that he is in a tremendous amount of pain, and the most humane thing would be to euthanize him to end his suffering. I immediately became overwhelmed and just cried. Gizmo knew something was wrong and began shaking and whimpering. So, we packed him up and hurried out of there. I cannot, for the life of me, just sign his death sentence. He's such a sweetheart and has a beautiful spirit; he deserves a second chance. Yes, Gizmo was just a random roaming stray puppy, but he didn't choose that life; it was the life somebody decided for him. I'm willing to do the work to rehab him, put time and effort into nursing him back to health. I'm just in need of some additional support. Everything contributed to him will go towards his ongoing health care needs: exams, X-rays, lab work, surgery, medications, medical supplies, and anything else that might occur. No amount is too small. Every cent counts.

Gizmo's PupDate:

After a second opinion visit with Dr. Lisa Hansen from Taylor, Texas.

Here's what we know now:

Gizmo's right front leg is shattered at the elbow. It can't be surgically repaired, so it will definitely require amputation. His left front leg is fractured but is still set properly, so the vet said they will splint it for 6-8 weeks to let it heal before they do the amputation. She wants to give him time to regain strength in

his left leg first. He also has bullet fragments in both legs and a bullet lodged near his spine on his neck, which will have to be removed. On top of all of that, she suspects Gizmo has heartworms, though that hasn't

been confirmed with the appropriate test.

So, Gizmo and his lil village of supporters are about to go on a wild ride, but we are all buckled up!

Are you?

Gizmo Pupdate:

Today, was so bittersweet. Gizmo was fully examined by Dr. Lisa Hansen in Taylor. Let me start by saying Dr. Hansen is absolutely amazing!!

Here is what we know after the visit:

The hard part first...Gizmo was actually shot twice. Once by a pistol and once by buck shot. Someone literally tried to kill him, but he refused to die! Furthermore, in spite of this, he remains his happy and loving self. He just wants to stay right by my side. Dont worry Giz I'm locked in for this journey. Love will conquer evil every time.

Dr. Hansen said that surprisingly, Gizmo is pretty healthy considering what he's been through. He's a bit over weight(62.5 lbs) and needs to lose 15 pounds, which will assist with his mobility after amputation, so she put him on a strict diet. She put him in a full leg splint on the left front fractured leg and the right leg just has to have the wounds monitored. There's really no need in splinting it at this point. He'll get used to not being able to use it. She noted that some of the nerve damage to his leg may have just worked in his favor, meaning some nerves are severely damaged causing them to be non responsive to motion, however the nerves that are still alert, are extremely sensitive. She adjusted his pain meds increasing the dosage. Dr. Hansen instructed to keep him on crate rest for 22 hours a day to restrict movement. Well looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in my room."

The heartworms will need to be addressed eventually, but Dr. Hansen said that can wait until after his surgery. He will also be chipped and neutered down the road.

Gizmo has quite the journey ahead of him but his village is growing stronger by the day! We are so grateful for the support of the community!

Sadly, amputation of his right front leg is inevitable. That comes with a steep price tag, but Dr. Hansen is willing to do it at a discount since he is technically a rescue.♥️ We still need around $3000+ for his care and follow-ups.

PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE!

I'm asking if you could open your hearts and offer this helpless fur baby a fighting chance. Even just sharing Gizmo's story could work a miracle.

We thank you and are grateful for any and all support.
