My name is DJ and I am a foster dad for a sweet girl called Gia (aka Mothra). She was rescued by Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter.
Gia is heartworm positive and due to that she is not getting adopted. She is in immediate danger of being put down at the shelter.
Since I am a graduate student at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, I don't have the money to either adopt her or treat her for heartworm, which is costly. I am trying to raise about $4000 for her heartworm treatment.
I will put up all her vet bills on this website for transparency and will donate any unused amount after her treatment is finished to Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter at Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
I am requesting all Alabamans and Alabama football fans to help Gia get her treatment, and if anyone is interested in adopting her, please contact me.

- Hello everyone, a big thank you for help Gia get her treatments. I have been busy with my graduate studies work and was not able to update this earlier.
- As you know Gia got her 30 days of doxycycline treatment. After that we had to wait for 30 days before she got her first injection. She received her first Immiticide injection 8th of August 2025. She was advised to be in crate rest which is very difficult since she is a very playful dog. Luckily I have been able to keep her entertained while she was in crate rest. She has tolerated the first injection without much of a problem.
- She is due for her 2nd and 3rd injection around 8th September 2025.
- Her 1st injection treatment came with one day of hospital stay and the total cost was $398.25. I have uploaded the bill. Thanks to the generous donations from my donors I was able to cover her first injection and treatment. However, she is due for her 2nd and 3rd injection with 2 days of hospital stay and the cost for that is $796.50. I have uploaded that estimate too along with Gia's first discharge summary. As you know, I am a graduate student and don't have that much money to treat her Heartworm treatment. Without this treatment she is going to be put down once I let her return to the shelter. Please spread the word around since we need another $796.50 to complete Gia's treatment. Thank you all for helping and God bless you in all your endeavors.
