Save GI Honey’s Bees
Donation protected
After starting Georgina Island Honey Co. in 2015, Darla for her love of Bees and nature and Me for my love of honey and all things sweet, we grew the operation to over 30 bee colonies. The Island seemed like a perfect spot with it’s remote location, miles from industry, commercial farming and bans on pesticide use. Our bees flourished, producing wonderful tasting, GMO free honey. Then tragedy struck, a dispute with a neighbour resulted in the destruction of the majority of our hives. Darla was beside herself with grief, I still remember watching her on her knees scooping her beloved bees into a cardboard box with her bare hands in an attempt to save who she could. We vowed to rebuild. He wasn’t done, the dispute continued, Darla was even physically assaulted. Then again this year, when we went to take our winter wraps off our hives, we discovered once again our bee yard had been destroyed. We once again said we would rebuild. The outpouring of support from our customers, the community and our fellow beekeepers as well as total strangers has been overwhelming. Darla suggested setting up this gofundme to raise money to purchase more bees (we raise a breed called buckfast bees) at a time when we feel they are needed more than ever. Your words of support have been more than we could ever ask for and expect nothing more than that from you. However, we realize this is a time when people don’t have much to spare and we don’t expect anything for nothing, so if you’d like to help and can afford to, for every $20 donation we will enter your name into the various draws which we will roll out as soon as we can put them together. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates. Also, if you decide to get in on it, or don’t have Facebook, shoot me an email at [email redacted] and send me your address and/or contact info.
