Save baby George the cat from FIP and others!
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Katie Cole. I'm an Australian singer-songwriter and certified cat-lady.
I adopted George who is 7 months and 6 lbs over Christmas and he quickly bonded with my two other rescue cats which was heart-warming to see. Then very suddenly, he became lethargic …. fast. He also started losing weight.
After 2 x trips to our trusted veterinary clinic, and blood work complete, I received a grim diagnosis - FIP. Its full name is Feline Infections Peritonitis. It's a mutation or after-effect of a type of cat coronavirus. It's not contagious or transmissible to humans or even other cats. But I had never heard about it. Our vet told me he used to tell people to prepare to euthanize. They are never expected to live more than a few months as the condition moves fast.
Traditionally, FIP has been considered universally fatal. Many cats cannot be conclusively diagnosed with FIP until they pass away. Only in recent times has a promising medication come to light.
Luckily our vet told us that there is a Facebook support group and people to help us all access the life-saving treatment. George is a week into treatment and he is up, playing, eating, alert and so far…. seems to be keeping down all of his kitten food. It's nothing short of a miracle. His big brother Rufus has been with him the whole time taking care of him and cleaning him too.
We are looking for "angel donors" and "animal lovers" to help keep him on this 84-day treatment. It costs roughly $250+ a week to complete the treatment. Plus he needs 2 x more sets of blood work. First at the halfway mark (to track progress), then at the end of treatment (to show his blood work is back to normal). It's very expensive as you see. But I'll do anything to help him and I want to help others too!!!
All studies I've read show that 90% or more of cats treated go into remission. George doesn't have to die. Other cats with FIP don't have to either. We can save them.
IF I REACH THE GOAL, I WANT TO DONATE $1000.00 out of what is raised to our local cat shelter True Rescue. If we reach beyond the goal, I will donate proceeds to other cat parents via the FIP Warriors Facebook group.
We can do this together. We can raise awareness. We can save these cats.
