Save Furry Animals from Wuhan China

Donation protected
Hello friends! We are Louisa and Alexia Lee, animal lover expats from Los Angeles now living in Beijing. We (Louisa) rescued a once abused puppy Lucas @lukethebeijinger off the streets years ago, and he has since transformed into a happy member of the family. Unfortunately in China, not many furry animals have the chance to have a loving forever home like Lucas.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we learned a great deal of horrifying and tragic stories of animals here in China. We were in total disbelief and deeply appalled by how many people abandoned or brutally murdered their furry family members in fear of the spread of Covid-19.  We came across Furry Angels Haven Wuhan in an article a few months ago and was truly touched by their story. We started following their journey and knew we needed to help spread the word.

Furry Angels Haven Wuhan ("Furry Angels") is currently a self-funded animal rescue based in Wuhan, China, run by two compassionate lady heroes, Fita (Wuhanese) and Xenia (American). They share the same mission, to rescue abandoned and abused animals throughout the city and find them forever loving homes abroad.  Fita started her rescue mission in 2009 by herself, but was met with endless challenges and frustrations given there are no local laws against animal cruelty. On the contrary, animals were being beaten to death by police as the way to "get rid of them" (dogs taller than 45 cms were illegal). When they were lucky enough to escape the police, the animals would have to fend off the violent and cruel animal eaters, who would actually torture them before murdering and eating them. It was horrifying just to think about what the animals had to go through.

Local adoption rate is also very low and often short-lived. The rescued and the newly adopted pawfriends frequently found themselves on the streets again, due to being no longer a puppy, people simply “over it”, sickness, or any irresponsible excuses people may have. Fita was very saddened by the situation until she met Xenia who gave her a glimpse of light and began their joint venture in late 2018.  They joined forces and created Furry Angels Haven Wuhan to find loving family for these animals overseas. They both have a full -time job so they can take care of their rescues and support the flights & paperwork needed for the furry pals’ new home.

As many of you know, Wuhan was the ground zero of the outbreak and was hit exceptionally hard during the pandemic. Xenia had to go back to the Unites States. Although Xenia couldn’t physically be in Wuhan to help, she abided her role of bringing awareness and partnering up and coordinating with many adoptions abroad, in Canada, the US, and some European countries, dedicated to help finding the furry pals a forever home.

Despite being now the one-man rescue team, Fita has taken in more than 200 dogs and 50 cats during the pandemic, and the number is still counting. Fita and Xenia are using up all their salaries and depleting their life savings to give these animals a fighting chance. Last year in 2019, with very limited help, Fita and Xenia still managed to fly over 200 pets to their forever homes. They (and partnered volunteers) have covered all of the costs and prepared the needed paperwork. 2020 has been a very challenging year but even with the grim outlook, Fita and Xenia’s will power and love to help the furry ones continue to keep them going.

We want to help them by sharing their untold stories. Every little contribution to their mission is a grateful appreciation from them. We want to let the world know about this wonderful cause and bring the help they need, whether is food/treats/necessity donations, flight volunteers, monetary donations, or simply by sharing their stories to people who might be able to give them a hand. Please also follow them on Instagram @Furry_Angels_Haven_Wuhan to see more on the animals rescued each day!

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Food Donations
If you're in China, food and treats donations are very welcomed and can be sent directly to their rescue shelter. Address can be provided upon request.

Monetary donations
100% of the donations go directly to Furry Angels Haven Wuhan, to support their food costs, medical bills, and most importantly, the transportation (cars and flights) of the animals to a better life. Louisa, Alexia, and Lucas only set up this page to help and bring more awareness. There's no monetary incentive for our efforts.

$10 FEEDS A DOG OR 2 CATS FOR A MONTH

$25 FEEDS 2 DOGS AND 1 CAT FOR A MONTH

$50 VACCINATES 5 DOGS OR CATS AGAINST RABIES

$100 SPAYS/NEUTERS 3 DOGS/CATS PER MONTH

$250 FEEDS 10 DOGS OR 20 CATS, VACCINATES 5 DOGS OR CAS AGAINST RABIES, AND SPAYS/NEUTERS 3 DOGS/CATS PER MONTH

Be a Flight Volunteer!
Flights are very limited and flight volunteers are hard to find. Even if there are interests overseas to adopt, the rescue still needs help finding transport for the animals. With lack of flight volunteers at this time, Furry Angels is currently working hard to raise money to send the animals by cargo, which is a lot more costly.

If you’re flying out from Wuhan, Shanghai, or Beijing already, why not take a furry one or a few with you!! If you or you know anyone who plans to travel to Canada, the United States, France, the Netherlands, or anywhere abroad in the near future, please contact @Furry_Angeles_Haven_Wuhan on Instagram.

This flying mission doesn’t involve any costs or work for the flight volunteer. Everything will be prepared by Furry Angels (and also rescue partners at the final destination). The flight volunteer will only need to attach the pet to their flights during check-in, which will be handled by Fita/volunteers as well. Furry Angels will coordinate all necessary procedure prior to departure and upon arrival. The flight volunteers will only need to collect the animals before going through customs. The rescue partner at the final destination will take over after customs. For the flight volunteers, it’s a tiny bit of effort in exchange of a pet's better life!

Current Airline Partners:
Air Canada, EVA, Air France, KLM, United and Delta Airlines, but even if the flight is not listed, please reach out and see what arrangements can be done.
