Have you ever met your soul mate... your best friend... the one that understands you and loves you unconditionally? Well, for my dad, that is Fenway. I am a kitten foster and have had hundreds over the past couple of years, but when I picked up this little guy at 4 weeks old, I could tell he was special!! He was a little spitfire and tried to be all big and bad, but after about an hour, he was just pure love and all purrs. Well, my dad fell madly in love with him from the start and Fenway was instantly drawn to him as well.. Fast forward 4 weeks and I had to go out of town. My dad watched my litter of 3 which included Fenway. I got picture after picture after picture. It was obvious their intense bond. Then I got a frantic call that something was wrong with Fenway and they were driving 1.5 hours to an emergency vet, they didn't care if the Rescue I worked with would cover the bill, they decided this is OUR baby and NO WAY they were letting him go and NO WAY they were not going to do EVERYTHING they could for him. By the time they got there, they were sure he wasn't going to make it and they would need to say goodbye.... talk about them being a mess!!! Well, doctors weren't sure what was the matter, thought he needed a neuro work up, and sent home after getting him stabilized.
My parents wanted the adoption done asap so there was no question, he was theirs!! A couple thousand dollars and many vet appointments later, they knew he was having seizures every couple of days, but didn't know why. He went from perfectly normal VERY active kitty to falling over, drooling, blank stares, and super lethargic for hours after. So, they were referred to a Neurological specialist that works closely with Cornell. Here he was diagnosed with a liver shunt. Surgery is the cure, but most cats are too far gone for it to be successful. But this is my dad's BABY!!! They opted to spend over 3000 more to get a full cardiac and liver work up to see if he was even a candidate for surgery. He is only 10 months old and he got an A+ on all of his tests, his heart is super strong and his liver is still very healthy, large enough, and in good shape even with the shunt. This makes him the PERFECT candidate. Well, they got the estimate for the surgery.... $7500-9300. WOOF!!!! Yes, I know... it's a "Cat". But, this is my dad's baby!!! I HAVE to do something to help them!!! They ADORE this cat with every bit of their being and are not ready to give up and say goodbye.
My dad John and Pat are the kindest, most caring and giving people you could ever meet. They will literally give the shirt off their back to help others, and have, many times. It is their turn for a bit of help!
Please, Please.... I am looking to help them by doing this go fund me to at least knock a small chunk off the cost of the surgery. They have been there for me through everything in life, and I want to help in anyway I can. I am not one to beg for anything, but I am begging for people to help with even just a tiny contribution to help Fenway get the surgery he needs to survive!! He had a bad seizure episode yesterday and time is of the essence! He needs the surgery before the ammonia build up from the Liver shunt does anymore damage.
Please help SAVE FENWAY!!
