This fundraiser is to help with the legal fees associated with helping a family-run, Black-owned East Austin business keep it's location.
Eddie Banks grew up a street away from the auto shop off of Airport and Manor Rd. in East Austin shop, and when he was a kid he said he wanted to work there when he grew up.
Twists of fate led him to being the owner of that very same shop, and he’s been telling his landlord for 2.5 years that he would love to buy the property, hand-delivering his rent to her every month and doing everything he can to develop a good and respectful relationship with her. In a sadly familiar East Austin story, the landlord decided to sell out from under him and refused to give him the chance to buy, telling him he didn't "fit in" with the neighborhood, even though had grown up there and told her he would buy at the fair market value. He was just told he had to leave within 30 days.
Eddie is a mentor to many young people, an honest business man, and a cherished part of the community, and has gotten wind under his sails since realizing that people are willing to help him have a shot at keeping the location. Please share whatever you can to help his cause, and share his fundraiser to help spread the word.
