Our Mission

We are a community group on a mission to purchase and preserve Falkland Parish Church, a landmark of Fife heritage standing at the heart of the Royal Burgh of Falkland for over 175 years. This is not just a building; it's the heart of our community, a testament to our past, and a beacon for our future. It has now been put up for sale by the Church of Scotland, and we need your help to save it.

The Story

Falkland Parish Church stands proudly on the High Street, facing out over the Bruce Fountain in the shadow of Falkland Palace, once a favourite hunting residence of the Stewart kings. The current building was raised between 1848 and 1850, designed by the celebrated architect David Bryce, who also worked on the Palace itself. But it is the third church to stand on this ground: the first was built in 1595, soon after Falkland received its royal charter, replaced in 1620, and finally rebuilt in the grand Victorian structure that stands today, a Category B listed building with its distinctive spired steeple visible for miles around. Its walls have held christenings, weddings, funerals, and generations of Falkland families who have worshipped, celebrated, and found solace within them.

In October 2024, the congregation united with neighbouring parishes to form Fife: Eden Tay Parish, and this beloved building has now been declared surplus and listed for sale, with offers invited over £105,000. We face a critical, time-sensitive opportunity to secure its future. If we do not act, we risk losing Falkland Parish Church to private ownership, potentially closing its doors to the public and our community forever.

Our goal is to purchase the church and ensure it remains:

A living place of worship and reflection for all.
An open and accessible historical site for visitors from around the world who come to Falkland for the Palace and the village's royal history.
A vibrant community hub for concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and educational programmes.

What Your Donation Will Do

The £35,000 we are raising is the crucial first step toward securing the purchase. Every single pound brings us closer to our goal and will be used directly for:

The initial deposit and legal fees toward the purchase price.
Essential initial repairs and maintenance to protect the structure and its stained glass.
Insurance and utilities to keep the doors open while we complete the purchase.
