Save Evie's Life: Donate for Her Chemotherapy

Urgent Chemotherapy Needed for our beloved dog Evie.

Our beautiful rescue pup and best friend Evie, has recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Without Chemotherapy, she will die.

Unfortunately, we are not in a financial position as a family to afford this sudden unexpected expense. We’ve already spent over $10,000 in the last two weeks figuring out what was going on with her - heart exam, lung exam, bloodwork, biopsies, and a 4 day ER stay etc. Thankfully she was diagnosed in the nick of time and given an emergency “Elspar” injection that temporarily kills the cancer in dogs so they can recover enough to then begin a 6 month Chemo “CHOP” protocol (which she’s now had two successful doses of, and is handling quite well). Her bloodwork is showing very positive results from the Chemotherapy, and she’s back to playing, eating normally etc. Our oncologist has told us that dogs tend to handle Chemo much better than humans, and she can live a very happy normal life while undergoing treatment.

Our family has been tied to the ethical vegan and animal rights movement nearing 45 years - helping raise money and awareness for animals, donating our time, money and energy to endless animal rights causes (and animal rescues) over these past decades.

We’ve always been on the other end of giving help to animals (and people too) and are hoping our family, friends, and fellow travelers in the vegan/animal rights community (as well as the various music scenes we’ve all been a part of) will help us in our time of need.

These last few years have been especially hard for us. My daughters have lost one grandfather. I’ve lost my best friend Dave Stein - a long time music lawyer, animal rights activist and veteran of the NYHC scene (who many in the animal rights and music world will know as a constant advocate for both animals and his musician friends. He was a true brother to me (and uncle to my two daughters) and we’re still trying to come to terms with his passing.

This was all followed by my dad’s recent Parkinson’s diagnosis (and other ongoing health issues for people in our household as well).

Evie has been the one bright constant joy that’s helped keep us going amidst the hardest of times, and darkest lows.

Every animal has their unique special traits that are known to their loved ones. For us, one of the things Evie has always amazed us with, is her love of watching Disney and Pixar movies. If you tell her it’s time to watch a movie, she’ll immediately jump onto the couch and take the center spot in front of the TV, watching it from start to finish while she’s cuddling with the family. There’s really no greater time than the moments we spend with her. And I can’t emphasize how therapeutic she is for my father.

That said - her worth isn’t based on what she has done for us - but for those who know our family (or of the work that we’ve done from afar), we just want you to know how important she’s been to us in keeping our heads above water during moments of complete emotional collapse these last few years. We as a family owe her everything, and unfortunately with our own mounting medical and insurance bills (in the post pandemic financial landscape), we’re just not in the position we once were to help her on our own in her time of absolute need.

This is a rough break down of the treatment plant and expenses over the next six months.

Week One
Vincristine $696.62
Week Two
Cyclophosphamide $684.21
Week Three
Vincristine $696.62
Week Four
Doxorubicin $1303.16

This repeats every week for two months
Cost:
3380.61 a month for two months
Subtotal 6,761.22

Then the same protocal is done every other week for 4 months
Cost
3380.61 every 2 months for 4 months.
Subtotal
6,761.22

Total Costs 13,522.44

We’ve never done a gofundme before, and we are aware our goal may be higher than we can expect to raise. We’re just hoping with as many people that we know, that enough of you can help put a substantial dent in these expenses so we can continue on getting her the urgent treatment she needs, and keep her in our life.
