Save Videra Oak Meadow!
As business and community leaders, we have never made a public plea such as this.
An Arizona corporation is attempting to develop a 15-acre parcel in the Braewood Hills area. As planned, the development would destroy precious natural Oregon resources including 300-year-old oak trees, wetlands, marshes, and areas that provide a habitat for many different animals. Animals that will be impacted include: foxes, deer, and many species of birds.
In addition, the planned development would increase the probability for landslides in the surrounding area. If approved, the development would permit construction of up 160 houses in an extremely small area. The developer plans to construct streets that would be so narrow that emergency vehicles would be unable to access all of the homes, creating conditions that made the 2017 fires in Paradise, California so catastrophic.
Rather than fighting to protect local citizens, Eugene officials have instead taken advantage of flaws in city codes that were intended to protect what we love about Oregon -- the animals, trees and natural habitat.
In times such as these, we must come together and support each other and our natural resources.
If you can donate, please donate. If you can come to our fundraiser, please come to our fundraiser. If you can spread the word, please spread the word.
We are asking for your help. Please tag the City of Eugene Facebook page and let them know what they’re doing is wrong and the people of Eugene won’t stand for it. We cannot let the government put the financial gain of an Arizona corporation above the safety of our community.
Donations will go toward covering the legal fees and towards the purchase of the property to be donated to the City of Eugene who will make it a public park.
