Save Enterprise Osteen Road–Keep it Rural!

Help stop unnecessary over-development of our Rural Heritage.

Please help us defend this beautiful road and the rural area it travels through by donating whatever you can to help with the legal costs that will be incurred as we work to Keep It Rural.

We appreciate all donations, and while we are fortunate to have a number of very involved and very committed residents who have given a significant amount outside of this site, a lawsuit has now been filed and we are committed to the long haul.  Anyone who wishes to Keep It Rural is being asked to take part in our efforts by contributing through this page.  If so desired, donations can be made anonymously.   Any questions can be addressed through the Contact
button within the Organizer square at the bottom of this page to Glenda Ross and Wanda Van Dam.

HISTORY:
Connecting the communities of Enterprise and Osteen Florida for over 175 years, Enterprise Osteen Road is a beautiful, winding, scenic route sought out by drivers who are looking to take a breath, decompress, and enjoy a bit of Old Florida scenery.   It is home to families who live there to enjoy a rural and agricultural lifestyle.   It is also a portion of the nationally recognized Scenic Byway, the River of Lakes Heritage Corridor. It is traveled by bicyclists, motorcyclists, car clubs, and folks who seek out designated scenic highways.

This exceptional road is being threatened by the ongoing, unnecessary, over-development of the area.

With seemingly total disregard for the will of the people, on April 19 the Deltona City Commission approved a rezoning request for 110 acres of property on Enterprise Osteen Road.  If carried out, this plan will dump 1,900 additional cars per day onto this road which, because of its’ narrow width, is considered sub-standard.

Five hours of testimony from the public emphasizing multiple reasons why this was not a sound decision appeared to be totally disregarded by the commission when they voted 4 – 3 to approve a plan which will replace Volusia County zoning, which would allow 34 homes, with a plan to place 189 homes on a parcel that is 55% within the 100 year floodplain, is surrounded by Conservation property, agricultural lands, large lot residential properties,  and a lake.

This decision by the Deltona City Commission has left the residents with no option but to seek legal recourse as they work to defend this well known scenic byway, their rural lifestyle, and the safety of the traveling public. We are asking for your help to do this.

Deltona already has more houses approved than they will need for their next 10 years of population projections.  The development as proposed, termed a “gateway” development because of what it will lead to on this road, must be stopped.
