Save Eli & Jasper's Home

Family and Friends,

We’re reaching out on behalf of two people we’ve had the incredible fortune of calling friends. As many of you already know, Southern California was recently hit with a tropical storm (once hurricane Hilary). The last time Southern California was hit with a storm like this was in the 1930s - so needless to say, SoCal’s infrastructure isn’t quite set up for the high levels of rain and wind - increasing the likelihood of significant damage. Unfortunately, that was the case for our good friends, Eli and Jasper.

First off - I need to take a moment to share about Eli and Jasper because they are worth getting to know at a personal level. Eli is deeply empathetic, and dedicated to giving all of herself to help others in need. She prioritizes her community, her peers, her family and immediately became a trusted colleague and friend. I can’t describe the amount of times I’ve seen Eli sacrifice her time and energy to aid a colleague or friend - whether helping them move into a new apartment, or redesigning a friend’s resume at 8pm on a weekday because they’ve had a hard time finding work; she shows up. So it was not a surprise to have learned that her partner, Jasper, is equally as warm and giving. Jasper is a music therapist working with youth in need. Together they’re a force for their community, providing meals, a place for friends to connect (they hosted our friendsgiving last year). I mean, the first thing they did when they bought their home was provide an ADU for Eli’s mom in their backyard. They show up and they give - and so we wanted to show up for them in their time of need -

The Situation:

Last week their home sustained catastrophic water damage due to the tropical storm – all ceilings, walls, and flooring will need to be gutted and replaced within the next 48 hours in order to avoid irreparable damage to the foundation and to prevent dangerous mold from forming inside the walls and attic.

The costs for the demolition work and repair of Eli and Jasper’s home are expected to total between $110,000 - $150,000, an incredible sum to make the house liveable again. We’re hoping to raise $80,000 to help them begin this process. The immediate work needed within these two days requires an initial down payment to begin - our goal is to raise $20,000 this week to get that going. The additional 60K will be used to add drywall, flooring, any wood repair in the attic and a new ceiling.

We appreciate you taking the time to read about Eli and Jasper and we SO appreciate any and all support. We know inflation is real and has been a genuine pain point for most of us, so asking for money is a difficult ask. With that said, we also know that any donations made are being done out of true generosity and kindness. We see you, and we can’t thank you enough for helping us take care of our friends.
