Hey Everyone, Abbey here again. As many of you know, Eevee is my service dog and she has had eye issues since I got her. She has had surgery on her left eye when she was less than one, and then had almost lost her right eye back in 2017. After tons of appointments, and help from you all, I was able to save that eye that had less then a 20% chance of being saved. Well, Eevee is five years old now, and has just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. But, due to COVID, I hadn't been able to bring her to an eye doctor in a while. She seemed comfortable and just had scarring on that right eye that she had almost lost, or at least that's what I was told. I was finally able to get a referral and an eye doctor appointment for her yesterday, and I have now been told that she is actually in pain in that eye, it isn't just scarring, and she needs two eye surgeries (one on each eye).
Apparently, this scarring is actually "Corneal Mineral/Lipid Degeneration," or as far as I understand, basically due to her now known hypothyroidism, her cells aren't metabolizing minerals correctly and are depositing them on her cornea, causing this white/cloudy look that also has vascularization. Without treatment and this surgery, she will start to develop severe corneal abrasions and ulcers that would be extremely painful, and eventually her eye will rupture, causing her to lose the eye. The other eye has "Lateral Lower Lid Entropion" which basically means her eyelid from the previous surgery when she was younger is loose and turns inwards, causing the hair on her eyelid to constantly be rubbing on her cornea. Without treatment (which is just this surgery), she will end up having wear on her cornea and would ultimately start getting infections and lose that eye as well.
We have started basic treatment with eye drops and eye lubricants to try and slow this process while I come up with some way to pay for these extremely expensive surgeries, but I lost my job because of COVID and I am a full-time student. I haven't been able to find work since and I am struggling to come up with this amount. Luckily, her surgeon said he can do both surgeries at the same time, which will save me about $200-$400 on the eye lid surgery, but it's still very pricey.
If any of you know Eevee personally, you know she is the happiest and easiest dog. She is calm, cool, and collected and loves everyone she meets. On top of this, she has kept me out of the hospital countless times, and keeps me safe every single day. I can never repay her for all she has done for me, but I can make sure she gets her thyroid medications and she is able to get these surgeries to be comfortable.
SO, we're going to try and see if I can get some help this way again to hopefully help with paying off this bill so I can get her this surgery ASAP. Please donate if you can, or share if you can't. Thanks for reading this far!! Let's try and save Eevee's eyes, again!!
