If you grew up in Dorchester you know it's not easy to rise above the poverty and the violence of the city, all the while coping with a new country as children of immigrant families or just a youth in general.
DYC is a youth center that has provided a safe haven for many children and teens in the area. I myself have never found refuge in this place where many have called home. But DYC has been a place where my brothers have spent their adolescent years, sheltered from street violence and cared for by the staff here.
20 years after my brothers have spent their adolescents at DYC, my niece has also found this haven and have called it her "home".
I'm sadden to hear that DYC may potentially close down due to lack of funding. The kind people at DYC like , Emmett have served for decades here shaping the lives of underprivileged kids.
