Please Help Save My Father!

Donation protected
On Friday 25 September 2020, my father Francis Xavier Duyet Van Le came home from 4:30am daily Mass in our small village, and didn't feel well. He laid down and then had a major stroke.

Dad is only 52. He works every day on the family farm, and is the breadwinner for his wife Teresa Thao and their six children, including my youngest sister aged 7.

Dad was taken to the provincial hospital, and then to the main city hospital where, after a six-hour op, they saved his life. At the moment, he remains in a coma and is likely paralysed on his right side. However, the doctors hope that with rehab and ongoing treatment he could recover most of the use of his body.

There is no universal healthcare in Vietnam and my family cannot afford private health insurance which means the doctors stop treating Dad once the money runs out. The whole family have pulled together and paid about $8000 (a lot of money in Vietnam) but our resources are rapidly running out, and we can only afford care for about the next 1-2 weeks. We may need to sell our small farm, even though this is also my family's livelihood.

I'm the eldest son with the responsibility for caring for my parents, but I have followed God's call to train as a priest for the Diocese of Wollongong. With covid, I can't return to be with my family because I would not be allowed back into the country, so now I am torn between continuing with my studies (which I know Dad wants me to do), or returning home to try to earn money to support the family.

If you can, please help.  We appreciate if you can help in any way.

Thank you
May God bless you and your family,

Sinh Le
