Save Dunroamin: Preserve Our Natural Retreat

That was our immediate reaction when finding out our beloved natural retreat was to be sold.

It took a while to sink in and then it turned into grief.

We have spent years here in this quiet campground nestled in a wooded area on Cape Cod. For some of us, it is an escape, for others, their home for half of the year.

"I have met my husband here, it would break my heart to see what we have worked on together torn down." a campground member stated.

The thought of a developer potentially coming in to bulldoze the area is horrifying.

We have seen turtles, birds of all kinds, and the elusive northern flying squirrel on the property. The area is shaded by lots of trees and abuts a pond.

"Our kids have grown up here learning to respect the local wildlife in Sandwich, fishing and riding bikes instead of at home playing video games. There are not many places that you can still affordably do that." A mother states.

"Our summers would not be the same without this place." Says one campground tenant.

As committed campers of Dunroamin Trailer Park and Cottages, we have fondly watched the site foster respectful appreciation of nature in generations of visitors. The property, embedded in the beautiful town of Sandwich, Massachusetts has grown into an oasis where local fauna thrive amidst urban development or resort sprawl in other areas.

Unfortunately, our community is facing a challenge. The areas around Cape Cod with access to local fauna are rapidly diminishing, swallowed by the unforgiving tide of major housing developments. We fear that a devastating change of use for the property currently held by Dunroamin Trailer Park and Cottages could have a similar impact. This would inevitably disturb the ecosystem and erode the affordability of the green spaces that we so love.

As it stands, the park and cottages support the local economy of Sandwich, attracting tourists and guaranteeing a unique, nature-based experience that is becoming tragically rare. The loss of such a destination would be an irreparable blow to both our community and the town's economy.

Preserving Dunroamin Trailer Park and Cottages as a campground is thus not just about maintaining our traditions but also about prioritizing sustainable development amid the relentless push for urbanization. It's about taking a stand for the environmental integrity of the town, and ensuring that our children and theirs have the chance to engage with nature. We as campers have been organizing in favor of maintaining the natural assets of the property through a cooperative however we cannot get this done without adequate funding and the help of the community.

Time has not been on our side.

There is a nearing deadline in place and a limited time to meet the requirements and be successful.

We have a huge amount of financials to take care of from attorney fees to costs associated with the transfer of the property. Your donation helps us to pay for these expenses.

We are asking friends, family, and the community to come together to save this happy place, and preserve its natural resources.
