Save Duncan's Eye!

***9/30/23 Update*** We finally got in to the eye specialist Thursday. Turns out, the problem with Duncan’s eye is a chihuahua thing that happens where fatty deposits/minerals end up weekening the corneal wall and can cause holes like this (common with the breed I guess). So, it was not a scratch like everyone previously presumed. It is still very serious. The wound is so deep the doctor is concerned his eye could basically come out through it if we are not careful. A parallel issue, this particular eye has typical old man deteriorating sight issues. The surgery available to repair the hole in his cornea uses existing tissue and ends up basically being an opaque patch that can not be seen through. So, it appears he might not be the best candidate for surgery to repair that eye, as the sight in that eye is already somewhat limited and it would only make his ability to see from that eye even worse. We still need to continue with medication and have follow-up appointments with the specialist as well. With all that said, I am pausing the fundraiser as we no longer require the almost $3000 we had thought we were going to need for corneal surgery. However, all the assistance thus far has definitely still been needed! At $312/visit to see the eye specialist and at least a couple more of those appointments on the books (not to mention all the regular vet visits and meds leading up to this point), there is no way I could not have done any of this without your support. It is also still very much a possiblity Duncan could lose the eye and need removal surgery down the line too. So, I am saving any left over funds for future visits to the eye specialist, and in-case there becomes a need for removal surgery (which is also pretty expensive), so hopefully I do not need to revisit this fundraiser again. I have tried to reach out to each person who has come through, but I would just like to say it once again, I am so grateful for you all! I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart and could not have done this without you ❤️

Our little dog Duncan has a deep corneal ulcer. After our third checkup, the vet is still worried it is not healing properly and has suggested a specialist. Unfortunately, the cost is so far out of reach to us. Just regular vet vists and meds have been very difficult to cover (and I do not qualify for pet credit either). We are just paycheck to paycheck already. We had been applying medicated ointment/drops to Duncan's eye, and have gone to the vet the last several weeks, hoping for the best it heals on its own. However, it is not happening. That is why I am here. We are trying to raise funds to see the specialist for eye surgery. We just made the appointment.. From what I am told (and have researched), the corneal ulcer surgery will be at least a two thousand dollars, probably a bit more. Asking for help is very difficult, however I can not give up on this little guy. He has been such a good bud to me and my kiddos over the years, he is definitely part of the family. The last few years as the world got kinda crazy he was such an awesome emotional support for me and my child too. I do not know what we would have done with out him. I am so grateful for any help you might be able to provide. For those interested, I also plan to post updates on his progress once things gets going. Thank you so much for your help and consideration!
Sincerely,
William (Corey) Clapp
