Save Dump Cats: Food, Vet Bills, Shelter

One spring afternoon, after cutting grass, a trip to the village dump led to the discovery of a small colony of cats simply trying to survive on their own. We quickly noticed several young kittens, also as part of this feline family. We contacted a rescue in Madison, from whom we had adopted our cats, who encouraged us to start to supplement the kittens and nursing moms with at least one nutritious meal a day. We have now been back every day for over 3 months feeding the colony of about 16 cats.

We started to contact area rescues and humane societies (now 18 in total) looking for a better life for these cats, which are all already overwhelmed with cats and kittens.

We are currently focusing our efforts on capturing the kittens in hopes they can be socialized and find loving families to be a part of going forward. We have three kittens from the dump at home with us now, who have all been to our vet- those bills have been $370, $430, and $250.

The adult cats are likely too wary of people at this point, so we are hoping to either find farm families who are looking for hard-working cats in exchange for a warm place to sleep, reliable food, and clean water… OR some of these cats may need to remain at the dump where they will continue to serve the community. For those who stay, we are hoping to trap/neuter/release them. TNR will cost $50 each. They will be fixed and get their rabies vaccine. For those cats, we are hoping to build a small shelter in preparation for the impending Wisconsin weather, when cats experiencing homelessness can freeze to death.

All money will go toward feeding, vet bills, and shelter for the cats. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for your kindness and generosity.
