Hi, I’m May Kalinu, and I’m reaching out to you to support Double Union, a vital 501c3 Non Profit dedicated to creating safe, welcoming environments for women and nonbinary people to collaborate on meaningful projects at our makerspace and hacker space located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Double Union has been around since 2013 hosting free events and teaching classes to our community.

We provide a safe space for women and nonbinary people to come learn. We have 3d printers, laser cutters, sewing machines and more for accessible pricing starting at $30/mo compared to $120/mo of other local community spaces. We also host free events for the SF Public library and even make 3d printed water bowl holders for our neighbors at Muttville senior dog rescue.

We have a wealth of knowledge to share and we are completely volunteer run and are dedicated to trying to keep the space open. We had a bustling network before COVID happened and have never fully recovered. At this moment, we are doing everything we can to bring new eyes to Double Union to save the space including hosting fundraisers selling community member handmade items, reaching out to our community partners for help, spreading the message through social media, hosting tours for prospective members, hosting free social events and paid learning events for our community, and looking at other office spaces to decrease our monthly rent (currently $2,800/mo). Our lease is up in October and we are expecting a rent increase. We are short about $1k of month to month operational expenses and are making active efforts to sign new members while keeping our space safe for women and nonbinary makers and hackers.
