My name is Brittany and I am a Canadian living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Since I arrived, I have made it my mission to save as many dogs as possible. I started volunteering at the local kill shelter with big dreams and a positive outlook, but that didn't last long. Things here are pretty grim...

Three times a week our volunteer group goes to spend time with the dogs that have found themselves at the shelter. Our goal is to feed them, clean their cages, exercise them and show them love & kindness. A bonus is to get them adopted. The bad news is, we have 10 days to do that. That's right, these dogs have 10 days to get adopted before they are euthanized. It doesn't matter their age, temperament, breed; all have 10 days. In a town of 175,000 people, we have exhausted most of our resources.

In 2023, I started Mexidog Rescue which is an international dog rescue that focuses on adopting these Mexican street dogs in Canada. So far, I have sent 18 dogs to Canada and they are all living their best life as Canadians.

The most challenging part (and what I need your help with), is prepping these dogs for flight. It is impossible to get the dogs out of the shelter in 10 days, find them a foster for minimum of 30 days (requirement for rabies vaccine) where their food and other expenses are paid and get all their vetting done. Finding a foster alone is impossible and I usually end up boarding dogs at my own expense.

I need help funding the costs of these dogs BEFORE they go to Canada. Once an adopter steps up, that individual/family pays for the expenses for the animal to go to Canada. However, the interim costs are what is preventing more dogs from being saved.

Approximate costs per dog are below (in CAD):

Rabies vaccine: $50

Bordatella vaccine: $45

Medicated flea/tick bath: $24

De-parasitic: $10

Spay/Neuter: $110

Food (for 1 month): $120

Bed: $60

Boarding (for 1 month): $365

= $784 per dog

By setting the goal of $5000 for this campaign, it is my hope that I can rescue 5 dogs before our next flight to Toronto on June 14.
