Injured Stray — Medical Treatment & Care Needed Urgently
My name is Evelyn, and I’m reaching out to ask for help for a cat who has become part of my daily life — and my heart. For the past eight months, I have fed a grey cat I call “Dobbles” twice a day, rain or shine. When we first met, he kept his distance and hissed if I came too close. Over time, he learned I am safe — now he runs to greet me, meows, and even purrs when I sit with him. To us, Dobbles is not “just a stray.” My three-year-old daughter, Josie, lights up every time she sees him and looks for him every day. Even Jordan — though he would never admit it outright — has grown quietly fond of him. My dogs know him, my cat knows him, and they all interact peacefully with him through the window. Over time, Dobbles has become part of the rhythm of our home, though I am still the only one he allows to come close. The porch has become his safe place. He spends most of his day there, with fresh food and water always available, cat trees for comfort and security, and a sheltered bed where he can rest. I even have a camera running 24/7 that sends me constant updates so I can check on him throughout the day and night. Right now, Dobbles is in serious trouble. He has severe, open wounds behind both ears that are painful and likely infected. Without treatment, they will only worsen. You can see in his eyes that he is hurting — and every day without medical intervention is another day in unnecessary pain. After exhausting every option with local shelters, rescues, and veterinarians, Animal Veterinary Services (AVS) in Baton Rouge has agreed to help. Once he is trapped, their plan is to: • Sedate and neuter him • Thoroughly clean and treat the wounds • Administer antibiotics and provide pain management • Give flea and tick prevention • Monitor him safely until he is stable The total cost will depend on what is found once he is under anesthesia and fully assessed. Funds raised will go toward his medical treatment, medications, procedures, aftercare, and any necessary overnight monitoring. If the veterinarian determines his injuries are too severe to recover from, the funds will cover humane euthanasia so he does not have to suffer. Any remaining funds will be donated to Cat Haven to help other cats in need. Although I cannot bring him inside — with a toddler and three pets, our home is already at capacity — I am committed to keeping him safe here if that is what works best for him. My plan is to maintain his secure “Dobbles Oasis” on the porch so he will always have food, water, shelter, and comfort while he heals or awaits a loving foster or forever home. This is urgent. Dobbles is outside right now, wounded and vulnerable, and this is my one opportunity to get him the care he desperately needs. Even $1 or a simple share can help bring him closer to safety, comfort, and the chance to live without pain. Please help me give Dobbles the care — or the mercy — he deserves. ❤️
