About a year and half ago I noticed Dexter (my dog) had a growth on his front left canine tooth. He LOVES to chew on the indestructible balls, so I thought it was a reaction to him chewing so hard on that side. Over the year I continuously watched to make sure it never bothered him, or didn't cause him inability to eat, or chew properly. Unfortunately, over the past 3 months the gum growth has rapidly doubled and taken over his premolar that is next to it. This was extremely alarming so I recently took him to his vet for it to be evaluated.
The growth is a Tumor, called Epulis. The vet is unable to say at the moment if it is cancerous or benign, but due to its rapid growth it needs to be removed immediately. If it grows anymore it will cause him not to be able to close his mouth, and chew properly. With removing it they will be able to send it off for a biopsy to see if there is cancer cells.
(IF) there are cancer cells they will have to go in again, even after removal, to go deeper into the jaw to remove more to make sure there are no cells remaining, to keep it from coming back.
(IF and HOPEFULLY) Benign, then with removal it and it will not come back, so they would not have to do any further surgeries.
The initial removal care treatment has been quoted to be $1,600. As a single income mother, $1600.00 is beyond my wallet in affordability. It is hard to ask for help, but Dexter deserves a chance to smile again. He is only 5 years old, and is a key member of our family. Anyone who has had the privilege to meet him, knows he can kind of be a "jerk" a first, but once he has accepted you into his pack, you are HIS forever to love and protect.
Dexter didn't have the best start to life, he was found at 1 years old a stray on the streets of Houston. When I adopted him from his amazing foster mom, he struggled with aggression, being territorial, and suffering from extreme anxiety (all from living on the streets for so long) . 4 years later, he is a big ball of fluff, still struggles with these things, but he loves his family with all his heart. I hope any contribution/donation you can provide, will give me the ability to keep providing the best quality of life for Dexter.
I am in need to raise funds by March 1, 2021, I would be forever grateful if you are able to donate anything towards Dexter's surgery.
