This is Dash, a big brother to Yuna and a lover of the world. Early morning October 25th, the nightmare started— Dash had what we now know was a stroke. A blood clot reached his paw and brain, and he was unable to catch his breath. We anxiously hurried him to the nearby pet hospital, where he was placed on oxygen to hopefully calm his erratic breathing. They stabilized him, and we met with the emergency vet, who, based on what she’d seen, warned us of the extensive bill that this could turn out to be. We weren’t about to give up on him, especially without answers, and explained we wanted to do any and all we could.
The next day (26th), we were informed that while he was a little more aware, whatever happened caused a domino effect of other symptoms. He had a ruptured lung, inflammation, and clear signs of a stroke. But no answers. From here, we needed to get him transferred to a larger clinic that had the ability to do MRIs or CT scans, but it was now Sunday. They’d monitor him again, and on Monday we transferred him (anxiously) to Davis, where we awaited any form of information.
We were finally pulled aside, and they explained that he needed extensive examination. We said we will do all we can to get answers, and hopefully be able to treat Dash from there. The estimated cost for the tests and supporting care was anywhere from $3,700 to $8,800, so the deposit being about $4,050. The deposit would cover the days he’d need to stay in the ER, and further testing.
At this point, we had already paid $4,850 for the previous vet and had exhausted our emergency funds.
Today we were sadly told that they found what they believe to be cancerous tissue in his lung. In order to be certain, he’d need further investigation and from there, treatment.
We are trying to raise enough to help with the previous costs, but also the starting of his treatment. Anything is helpful, anything.
Dash has so much life left in him. We want to make sure he gets the best treatment and support he can.
We know the bill will go up higher, especially based off of their suggestion for treatment. But this is the itemized estimate we have now, and only want to ask for what we need.
We’re praying it won’t be too strenuous on him, and that long term care won’t be necessary.
