Hello, everyone! My name is Daniel Mackie, professionally known as Daniel Belasco, and I need your help.
Since the end of 2018, I have been struggling financially with few periods of relief. After touring with my band Glass Apple Bonzai in the summer of 2019, I returned home in crippling debt, which left me destitute and poorly affected my mental health, which was already quite fragile for reasons I won't go into. I was jobless, an emotional mess, and fighting with the future of my career as a musician.
At the beginning of 2020, I was poised to return to live on-stage performances...when COVID hit. Because of COVID restrictions I've played only one live show since December 2019. The amount of income I've missed out on is in the multiple thousands and the effects of lockdowns and isolation beat down on my already battered mental health.
I don't discount the hardships the general public have gone through in the last two years due to COVID but people who rely upon live performances as their main source of income have yet to return to any sense of normalcy. I was lucky that I qualified for CERB/CRB during a majority of the downtime but it barely kept me afloat. Most of that went to massive debts that still aren't cleared up, lapsed bills, groceries, and a few frivolities that helped keep me sane. In early 2020, just after the pandemic hit I lost my dog to lung cancer and that sent me on an emotional spiral that I felt I might be coming out of...and then my oldest brother died in September 2021.
The fact is I'm unemployable due to the state of my mental health. I'm in a kind of financial limbo where I'm waiting to go on disability assistance, which will take probably until near the end of the year. In the meantime, I'm relying upon the small amount of revenue generated by streaming on Twitch and occasionally selling some of my music on Bandcamp while I continue to be in debt with the looming threat of financial collapse just ahead of me.
So I need your help.
Here's the breakdown:
Time Sensitive Debt - $2500 CAD
Pay Off Credit Card - $500 CAD (credit card to be kept at $0 until things improve)
Pre-Pay Bills For 6 Months - $2000 CAD
Living Expenses (groceries, etc) - $1000
Any money made past the goal will go directly to my Mum and my oldest brother's two daughters to help us all with funerary expenses.
