Save Dad's Truck, Support Uncle's Health
When I was real young, my mother used to tell us stories of my dads hot rod model a truck and how he destroyed his pride and joy so she wouldnt get it in the divorce. Well, my Dad died when i was in the 3rd grade, and I barely knew him beyond the phone calls he was allowed. I have few memories and just a couple of his things...a wallet, belt buckle. I spent my childhood under the hands of my stepfather instead of being around my dad. I reconnected with his family years later, and met my dad's brother and he had the fabled 1930 model a. They had been working on it and bringing it back to life, its been a family project to restore it.
A week or so ago, I got a message from my aunt and spoke to my uncle, and he told me he made a promise to my dad, that when he was done with it, the truck would go to me. Now that my uncle is in his 70's, he cant keep working on it, and is keeping his word and passing it on. His heart condition and health dont allow him to put the time into the truck as he wants to and with his medical state getting worse and needing the money, they kicked around the idea of selling the truck, and well, this is my dads and I cant have that.
Id like some help to get my uncle, who kept his word, the boost that he needs to ensure he get out if the woods. It would have been an easy decision for some, given the chance, to sell the truck regardless of old promises, but he didnt, and for this I believe i owe him not just a debt of gratitude, but to try to further the help i can give him by appealing to the public. Honor and the weight of one's word are too often forgotten, and Id like some help to give the return i can make happen for them more substantial, for thinking of me before themselves, a level of honor that deserves reward so often and rarely gets it.
I set the level at a modest 5k, I'll be happy if I acheive that for him. The plan for the truck is to paint it and do the final touches it needs, then to create a scrapbook of my family members who all contributed and take the truck to places like drive ins, car shows and gas station parking lots. Id like to have it pinstriped and labled with my small family campground, I think itd be a fitting future for such a nice machine, one where its destined to be included in my family endeavors for generations to come. My goal here is to help my uncle achieve a better financial position than I alone can do, and so I appeal to the clout of the public.
I think Im going to name it the Sledgehammer Special.
