Update 4/8: Thank you to the 5 people who have donated so far. Cooper is currently on his daily medications and prescription diet. Every donation has gone directly toward his vet bills and treatment. I'm grateful for every single one of you.

***I really appreciate you for clicking on Cooper's story, and stopping to take time out of a busy day to read this. I know times are really hard for everyone right now. I'm touched to know there are people who care.

Cooper's Story
I adopted Cooper when he was 8 weeks old; he was a rescue from an overcrowded home where his physical and mental health needs had been neglected. But, despite his early life, Cooper remained a playful, cuddly and curious little guy.

A few weeks ago, he was in the litter box and I noticed that he was straining when he tried to pee. Within hours, this became a medical emergency. As I would come to learn through a frantic google search, male cats can develop a life-threatening urinary blockage very quickly, so I rushed him to VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group).

As soon as I walked in the door, they grabbed Cooper and began treatment. I was told that if it became a full blockage, it could lead to cardiac arrest. I didn’t have time to weigh my options. I agreed to everything needed to stabilize him and keep him alive.

The total came out to $4,548.89.

Thanks to the urgency and care of the vets at VEG, Cooper survived the episode, and he was released the next day with a diagnosis of Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), a stress-related condition that requires ongoing, daily management to prevent recurrence.

Less than three weeks after his emergency, he relapsed. I worked with his primary vet and we added strategies and medications to manage his stress/anxiety and any discomfort he feels as it occurs.

He is now receiving:
  • Prescription urinary diet
  • Fluoxetine (Prozac) for anxiety
  • Gabapentin for pain (as needed)
  • Supplements and environmental support

Unfortunately, this type of emergency doesn't conclude with a large one-time expense. Continued management and daily care are the only way to keep this from happening again.

Costs so far:
  • Emergency hospitalization: $4,548.89
  • Medication refill: $40.89
  • Follow-up + prescriptions: $375.45
And ongoing monthly costs for his treatment.

I made the decision to save him that day, without hesitation, but it has left me in serious debt that I cannot realistically manage on my own.

I’m asking for help covering these costs so I can keep Cooper healthy without falling further into financial strain.

Cooper is deeply affectionate, playful, and emotionally attached to me and his brother Muse. He sleeps with me every night, follows me everywhere and greets me at the door when I get home. He makes my home feel alive. Seeing him in pain and knowing he doesn't understand what's going on is soul-wrenching. I know anyone who has ever had or has a furry friend knows this feeling.

I am doing everything his vets have recommended to give him a long, safe, and comfortable life.

If you’re able to donate, thank you. If you're not able to, sharing this with friends/family helps more than you know.

LONG LIVE COOPER
