Save Comrade: Support His Life-Saving Surgery

Hey everyone, my name is Jonah, and this is my baby boy Comrade. He’s a three-year-old tuxedo cat and one of the sweetest souls you’d ever meet, and he recently developed what the vets believe is a very aggressive cancer on his back right thigh.

During an exploratory surgery recently, they decided to remove what they could of the tumor (which was most of it). They said that while they removed as much as they could, they still believed some of the tumor remained in his leg and would, in all likelihood, grow back very quickly. They believed he had less than a week, and that if he lived longer than that, he’d quickly be in excruciating pain.

Well, it’s been more than three weeks since that surgery, and while his tumor has begun to grow back, it took much longer than expected, AND he seems to be feeling amazing. He’s been more playful than he’s been in months, and he truly seems to have more life in him. He really wants to live, so I’ve decided that I want to commit and give him the best shot I can at making it.

While his tumor is growing back, the good news is that it seems to be growing back about two to three inches below its initial site, which means that it’s moving downwards and potentially hasn’t grown up past his hip yet. Noticing this gave me hope. If that’s the case, then amputation of his leg may be a viable decision to save his life. The issue is that the only way to know if it’s gone that far up his leg is for him to undergo a CT scan. It would be reckless to amputate without having done one.

A CT scan costs anywhere from $1000–$2500, and a successive amputation would cost around $1000–$1500, meaning that saving his life could cost anywhere from $2000–$4000. I’d happily pay that much and more to get a few more years with my best friend, but I’m a server and a struggling artist, and I simply can’t make enough money in the timeframe needed to get these procedures done. Unfortunately, time is not on his side.

I’m asking anyone that can help to donate whatever they can. No amount is too small. I never thought I’d be losing my baby this early, and I’m not ready to let him go without exhausting every option, especially if there’s a very real chance that he survives this and lives a long happy life. Please help me save him. He deserves to play and cuddle and grow old, just like any cat, and this world would be a worse place without him in it. He’s such a gentle loving soul and single-handedly changed my opinion of cats and the kind of love they were capable of. I thank you in advance for whatever you’re able to contribute. It would mean the world to both of us, and it won’t go to waste. God, I love this cat so much y’all. I’m not ready to see him go.
