Hi everyone! On Tuesday, October 14th, I came across a dog near my home in Koreatown (Los Angeles, CA) that was malnourished, experiencing medical issues, and tied to a fence by a local homeless encampment. After speaking with the people living in the encampment, they notified me that not only had its prior owner been arrested, but the "owner" would leave the dog there for days at a time with no food and water. To make matters worse, the next day it started pouring rain, and I couldn't in good conscience leave this dog to fend for itself while tied to a fence. I called our local animal shelter, who dispatched animal control, but felt the strong need to advocate for this dog with no voice because South LA Animal Shelter IS a kill shelter, and I could not bear it if this dog was euthanized through no fault of its own.

Some background on the dog who is now named 'Chuck' by the South LA Animal Shelter:

He is very distrusting of humans at this time and with very good reason. He's exhibiting some reactivity such as growling, baring his teeth, and having his tail tucked behind his legs. Personally, I was able to get close enough to him when dropping off food, and he even sniffed my hand, but he becomes very wary at sudden movements. If you're walking up to him with no food or treats, he begins to bark and show the same symptoms listed above. He has a minor medical issue with his right eye, as you can see in the picture. I don't have much information beyond that. He gets along well with other dogs and did well in a playgroup initiated by the local shelter.

An amazing animal rescue named "The Little Red Dog" has agreed to help, but we need the funds for his training, transport, and medical care, which could add up to $8,000, and we need your help! All proceeds will be donated to "The Little Red Dog" rescue to immediately pull Chuck from the shelter so he can get the help and care he needs.
