Save Chows Barkley: Help Our Yorkie Get Life-Saving Surgery

Meet Chows Barkley, our 14-year-old Yorkie with a heart bigger than his tiny frame. Chow is a certified emotional support animal, a survivor of a terrifying apartment fire, and a bundle of joy who lights up every moment. Despite his age, Chow is full of energy—running through the park with glee, leaping onto the bed like a puppy, and greeting every dog he meets with a friendly wag. Curious as a detective, he investigates every nook, and his bravery, far beyond his small size, inspires everyone who knows him.

But our fearless hero is facing a heartbreaking challenge: chronic kidney disease and painful bladder stones that require an urgent cystotomy surgery. He also needs dental work to remove plaque, which vets believe may be contributing to his illnesses. Time is not on my side right now, Chow is suffering everyday without the necessary procedures. As a small, 14-year-old dog, one of my greatest fears is the risk of putting Chow under anesthesia for these procedures. I turned to the ASPCA, whose services I deeply appreciate, but they could only offer humane euthanasia—an option I’ll never consider for our fighter.
