UPDATE: 3/16/2024
The SPCA won their battle to keep Chip incarcerated for the rest of his life, without the opportuity to be someones loved companion in a loving home. Well done SPCA, we hope you are happy you "won" the right to deny this dog a good life. KARMA has a way of bringing things back around. God is apparently using Chip to teach you a lesson. OUR CONSCIOUS US CLEAR, IS YOURS?
They say "The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine" Legal costs, though offered at a discount by our attorney, Matt Albert, continue to add up as we go through the legal process. Numerous hearings and hopefully a trial are very expensive. Poor Chip has been held at the Allegany County SPCA for 8 months now.
We are doing all we can to save poor Chip, but can't do it without your support.
Chip is the Anatolian Shepherd lost and forgotten in 2021 by the Allegany County SPCA in Belmont, NY . During his time living on his own in a climate much colder than he was used to, an angel Rescuer from Fox Wood Wildlife Rescue, Inc took personal responsibility for Chip. She purchased very costly equipment to trap and monitor Chip, while trying different methods to capture him and get him to safety. Because Chip had escaped a trap set by a prior trapper, he was very trap-wise, making his situation a difficult long-term commitment. During those two years, there was no involvement or interest from the SPCA he had escaped from. The Rescuer, along with Andy, the property owner, kept watch over Chip, making sure he always had a reliable source of high-quality dog food, water, and a safe place to stay on Andy's property until he could be secured.
In July 2023 , with humid summer temperatures soaring over 80 degrees, the Rescue Angel was notified that Chip had a plastic jug caught over his head. It was a life-threatening situation, because within days, Chip could suffocate, die of heat exhaustion, or be eaten alive by maggots. The Rescuer from Fox Wood called the SPCA multiple times begging them to rally volunteers to help find and save Chip, as they were closer, it was their county, and they had lost Chip two years prior. However, they did not respond in an effective manner, and in fact seemed to be deliberately hindering rescue efforts. WHY? This is why Lisa Hitchcock from Rescue Pups, was then contacted by the Rescuer to help with the search. Lisa Hitchcock stepped up to the plate, searching, handing out flyers and talking to people for days until, with the help of volunteers, Chip was captured just in time.
The Fox Wood Rescuer arrived within minutes of his heroic capture by Lisa. Chip was unconscious with thousands of maggots crawling all over his head, inside his ears, nose and mouth. Chip was lifted into the Rescuers air-conditioned truck. He was resuscitated and continually cooled with cold water applied to his tongue, gums, ears and foot pads until he was able to sit up and shake - showering the truck cab and occupants with maggots. Once at the vet, the Fox Wood Rescuer and her daughter, Lisa Hitchcock and vet techs carried Chip into the vet hospital room, where the rescuer continued to cool Chip, working to prevent the heat exhaustion/ heat stroke from causing permanent damage. She did this until the veterinarian entered the room and ordered everyone to leave so more work could be done on Chip.
Having to return home so her daughter could return to work, The Rescuer left Chip in the care of the vet and Rescue Pups with the promise that Chip would be transported to his Fox Wood rescuer as soon as he was out of the woods. Somehow, however, the SPCA swooped in and took control over Chip. They have since labeled him unadoptable and kept him tightly confined. His rescuers have been blocked in every way from hearing about, seeing or adopting Chip. Having no response from the SPCA to her numerous phone calls, texts, e-mails which included photos of her facility, the rescuer was forced to submit applications to adopt Chip, which were all denied with no reason or unanswered. Anyone else who asked about Chip on the SPCA's Facebook page was also blocked from the page.
In two years, over $12,000 was invested in caring for and attempting to capture Chip by his Rescue Angel. .
Here is a trail photo from September of 2021 showing how thin Chip was 4 months after he got away from the Allegany County SPCA
Below is Chip in February 2023, sleek, weighing 20 pounds more eating at the rescuers feeding station
Below is Chip unconscious, covered with maggots just after capture
Here is Chip after being rescitated by his Rescue Angel during his race to the vet
This is Chip at the vet on the table, still being cooled with facuet water by the loving hands of his Rescue Angel (his internal temp was 106!)
Below is the photo of Chip supplied by the SPCA to convince everyone he was "fine"
This is Chip at Cornell, after having a relapse of maggots while under the care of the Allegany County SPCA
Below is the photo supplied by the one-sided Wellsville Sun, again to convince everyone Chip is "fine" at the shelter for 7 weeks at that point.
This is one of the traps the rescuer had purchased and designed specifically for Chip - but he was too trap-wise for
Here is where Chip could be right now and hopefully will be some day soon with your help. A beautiful, completely fenced and secure sanctuary experienced with rehabilitating feral, semi-feral and traumatized dogs. Many traumatized dogs have come to Fox Wood to decompress, learn to love humans, play and be happy companions.
