Instagram Post of the First Treatment ! ❤️
Chihiro has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). FIP originates from a form of the coronavirus (not transmissible to humans), which is not contagious or passed on genetically from other cats. Normally, a cat's immune system will fight it off. However, if it is mutated into the virus that causes FIP (generally in cats with a weaker immune system perhaps because they are more prone to being stressed), it is no longer contagious to other cats. There is a wet form of the virus where the cat will have a ballooning belly due to fluid build-up in the chest/abdomen. Chihiro has the dry form, where the virus results in chronic diarrhea, damages the eyes (uveitis), wobbly feet (neurological), lethargy, fever, and weight/appetite loss. She only has a few months to live without a full treatment.
There is treatment called Mutian to bring her all back to health again, but it is very expensive.
One pill costs $16. Her required dose started at 4 pills a day for the first month, but as she gained healthy weight after weight loss from her illness, she has had to switch to 6 pills a day, amounting to $96 a day. Mutain is an 84-day treatment, which amounts to $7,000. This is the scariest part and hopefully sharing stories like this will encourage more research and affordable alternatives to fight FIP. Additionally, there is no single diagnostic, so a lot of time and money was lost there for such a quickly-progressing disease.
I understand times are tough right now, but can if you could even spare a dollar, I would be so grateful.
*UPDATE* Thank you everyone for all the support. With the help of my friends, family, and a little credit card debt I put together enough money to start treating Chihiro. I'm so happy to start giving her the life-saving medicine she needs to survive FIP. Unfortunately there is still a long way to go to obtain the full dose of medication required. I'm so close to being able to save Chihiro. Please consider helping give my kitty a chance at life!
Thank you for your kind contributions.
