Checkers needs your help! Checkers wandered into the yard in really bad shape. He was lethargic, infested with fleas, his fur was dirty and missing in a few places, and he was completely emaciated. I couldn’t leave him like this so I took him in to nurse him back to health and hopefully find a new home for him.  Shortly after taking him in, I noticed he had difficulty eating.  A trip to the vet revealed he also had multiple infected teeth, causing him pain whenever he tried to eat.

After getting his bad teeth pulled, he began to slowly recover. His fur started to grow back, he gained weight and became more energetic. When Checkers first arrived, he would lay in the corner with a sad look on his face. He wanted nothing to do with people.  After gaining his trust, he started to come out of his shell. He now loves being pet and held and always wants to be around someone. 

A couple months ago, he developed an ear infection, which wouldn't go away with antibiotics. The vet discovered a tumor in his ear canal. A biopsy revealed it was malignant. The good news is this type of cancerous tumor doesn't metastasize. He will recover if he has surgery to remove his ear canal. Without immediate surgery, the cancer will eat away at his ear canal and there will be nothing we can do. He will have to be euthanized if the pain gets too unbearable. 

I dont want want to give up on him.  Checkers is a very sweet, affectionate cat. He has been through so much and deserves to live the rest of his life pain free and happy. 

My hope is he can recover and can someday have a forever home.

His care is beyond the scope of what I can afford as I've already invested well over $1500 to date for his other issues.  Any little bit helps.  If you can’t donate, then sharing would be greatly appreciated.
