Save Cassian: Urgent Surgery Needed

Hi! I’m Meredith, co-owner of Derby City Pigeon Rescue in Louisville, KY. We are a new rescue and our 501c status is still pending.

Two weeks ago, we received a complicated medical case due to human abuse. This poor pigeon, named Cassian, had a necrotic chest wound and broken legs. Unfortunately, no vet in my area, except one who was not in town until this week, was willing to see him. With the help of fellow rescuers, I was able to give this boy care and keep him happy and comfortable until he could be seen today.

Unfortunately, his keel is necrotic and needs surgical debridement. I have been funding all my rescues' medical costs out of pocket for the past year (as many of us do!), but it has been a very expensive year. Today’s appointment was just over $600 and the surgery scheduled for 12/27 is estimated up to $1400 (and since there will be follow-ups, I’m fundraising on the high end of that).

Cass is extremely sweet and deserves to live and have this care. He didn’t deserve what was done to him. I know it’s the holidays, but if you can give even a little, it would mean the world to us.
