Save Cashew! Emergency Vet Fund
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
I honestly never thought I’d be writing something like this, but I really need help.
My beautiful boy Cashew is currently in the animal emergency hospital fighting for his life. He’s been diagnosed with FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease). Unfortunately costs of care have completely snowballed, especially because this has all happened over two public holidays, which means massive vet surcharges.
Here’s the timeline:
Monday (public holiday): I rushed Cashew to the animal emergency centre. He was lethargic, meowing for help, clearly in pain, and we were terrified. He ended up needing a catheter and bloodwork, and they gave us painkillers and sedatives to help him rest. That visit alone cost $2,200. I brought him home and we did our best to look after him.
Tuesday: My mum stayed with him while I went to work. He was quiet and tired, but we were hopeful.
Wednesday: I stayed home to care for him. I hand-fed him and got him to drink a bit, but he was still straining in the litter box. Something still wasn’t right.
Thursday: He stopped eating and drinking completely. I took him to our local vet, and while he finally peed, blood tests showed signs of kidney damage. Thankfully she said he’s at a stage where this is still reversible so we were sent straight back to the emergency hospital. However, the deposit for this second visit was another $2,200, and he’s now in for at least 48 hours, on fluids, with another catheter, and 24/7 monitoring of his kidney.
I’m doing everything I can, but I could barely afford the first visit. To make things harder, Friday is another public holiday, which means another heavy surcharge. Thankfully I’ve managed to get a loan to help cover the costs for now, but these back-to-back emergencies alongside the public holiday surcharges are just too much for me to carry on my own.
Cashew has been my best buddy for 7 years and he’s been bright and bubbly all the way up until this week. I just want to give him the best chance at pulling through. So, if you’re in a position to help, even just a few dollars would make a huge difference. And if you can’t donate, I’d be so grateful if you could share this.
Thank you for reading this. I just want to bring him home.
