I’m reaching out to tell you about my beloved girlfriend: a gentle, kind-hearted soul named Cara Donahue. After meeting her, a friend texted me and said “Cara seems so sweet and vibrant”. It's true. Cara is a therapist, and the kind of person who changes lives.
From her earliest days, Cara worked to build a life of service driven by her deep faith and unwavering commitment to helping others. Despite a humble working-class background, she managed to earn degrees in Divinity from Georgetown and Yale, and finished at Fordham earning her LCSW. After her beloved mom died much too young of cancer, she specialized in grief therapy.
Cara has never stopped learning. I watch her spend entire weekends studying with other professionals, often incurring further cost to herself, just so she can be of help in this world. She studied to become a Reiki master, has offered this service free to hospice patients, and recently, nearly bankrupted herself to learn EMDR.
My heart breaks as I share with you that this beloved woman has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Cara has Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), which means it is the most aggressive, fast-growing kind, and most likely to recur. The oncologist stated there is a serious risk her lymph nodes may have been infected as well. This lovely woman will soon undergo chemotherapy. She will certainly need a lumpectomy, and quite likely bear the costs and pains of mastectomy as well.
Thank God she has an excellent medical team, one most likely to get her the best prognosis possible.
I hope to make life as manageable as possible for Cara during this time, but deepest of all, I want her to survive! I am launching this campaign because Cara lives alone, and her therapy practice is a private one. I’m astonished at the staggering costs of cancer treatment, and the devastation it can cause a person who is self-reliant for income. I am hoping we can help Cara pay her bills and take care of her modest needs in her small apartment. She also has a beloved pet and therapy dog named Leo, she’ll need to hire help with Leo as well.
This beloved woman is in a fight for her life. Thank you so much for reading this, for any help, and please remember, sharing this and sending prayers is helping. All funds go directly to Cara's bank account. Thank you, truly.
