An update on Buddy:
The vet was happy with Buddy’s progress during our first follow-up today. His back legs are now showing proprioception response and is doing much better walking. While this is great news, we now have to focus on working his leg muscles so he can learn to run & jump again. This is where “home PT” comes in; encouraging movement and regaining range of motion. We also had two additional weeks of steroids prescribed. Hopefully these steps are all it takes to get our kitten back!
It’s taken me quite some time to try to figure out what to put on here; how to ask for help.
Have you ever owned a pet that just tugs at your heart in a way you never thought could be possible? That’s my Buddy. We rescued him for my birthday after my other cat of 13 years passed on Christmas from kidney failure. He’s 5 months old now. Your typical rambunctious kitten. He’s also my shadow. He cuddles me every night, showering me with the unconditional love I’ve needed. But not just me-he puts up with my 5 year olds antics but insists on waking him up in the morning by licking his hair.
Here’s where the need for help comes in; ongoing medical expenses.
I had to take Buddy to the vet yesterday as his proprioception became nonexistent for his back legs; he became unable to walk. Scans, tests, and hours later the vet told me he believes Buddy took trauma to his spine. He’s currently on a couple different medications, but has not shown improvement. He spends most of his day laying down. He’s currently needing assistance getting in/out of the liter box along with motivation to keep eating. But that hasn’t stopped him; he rolls to play with his toys ❤️
He has a follow up appointment next week along with a neurologist if things don’t improve. I’m not sure what the future holds for him, but Buddy’s life has just begun and I refuse to be the one to call it quits for him.
