Who Is Bowie

Hey everyone, my name is Dave, and I’m fundraising to help my cat Bowie get life-saving surgery for a cancerous tumor on his leg.

Bowie is an incredibly unique cat with such a lively spirit. He loves to run, jump, meow at every moving thing outside the window, play with his sister Shadow (who rarely pays him much attention), and cuddle with anyone he trusts. He can be shy around strangers, but once he warms up, his playful and affectionate side shines through.

He’s a total chatterbox — often pacing around waiting for me to come home so he can curl up beside me and purr. And yes, he’s an absolute fiend for catnip.

(And yes… he was named after the musical genius David Bowie.)

The Diagnosis

Recently, Bowie was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma — a type of cancer that grows quickly and can spread if not treated right away. The only way to stop it is through a specialist amputation surgery on his thigh.

I first noticed a small lump on his leg in mid-September and have been doing everything I can since to get him diagnosed and treated. Unfortunately, the vets have made it clear that this surgery needs to happen soon. Even in the short time since his first tests, the lump has grown noticeably — making this situation urgent.

What We’re Facing

I’ve already covered the diagnostic tests, scans, and consultations that confirmed his condition, but the surgery itself — estimated at $8,500 — is beyond what I can manage alone. This amount covers anesthesia, hospitalization, medication, and post-surgical care.

Any additional funds will go toward his recovery, follow-up appointments, and keeping him comfortable at home as he heals. I’m also reaching out to other specialty hospitals and veterinary schools to see if there’s a more affordable option that can still be scheduled soon enough to be effective.

If the final cost ends up being lower, any remaining funds will go toward Bowie’s ongoing care and comfort.
