If you live in or have visited Puerto Viejo, you most likely know BoiBoi. She is a long-time resident and icon in Puerto Viejo. Maker of the best "heart-made" bread, which she sells at the Saturday farmer's market. The beautiful voice who sings classic smoky blues and also her own song that she sings to people while selling her bread, "Coconut bread is good for your head! Get your bread before you're dead!" When BoiBoi fell into a diabetic coma and almost lost her life a few years ago, the community came together and helped her recover financially until she could return to making and selling her bread. She has always remained deeply thankful for this help that literally saved her life.

Now she has fallen into another emergency situation. BoiBoi needs a special eye surgery to save her vision. She has cataracts with glaucoma, bleeding inside the cornea, and fluid building behind the eye. Since she is severely diabetic, she needs this to be done by a specialist eye surgeon. This is not covered by the Caja public medical service. BoiBoi lives only on the money she makes from selling bread one day a week, so she cannot afford this surgery. But if she does not get the surgery, she may go blind at least in one eye. She will only get the surgery in one eye. The other eye is not as bad, so it can wait for a while. BoiBoi will also need money to cover living expenses for a few months, food, and bills. She will need some time to heal before getting back to making and selling bread.

BoiBoi is the most selfless person I know. She always shares her love and joy with others, along with her smile and contagious laugh. Yet she never wants to ask for help when she needs something. She is stubborn, strong-willed, and determined to work things out for herself.

So I am here to reach out to this community and the many friends that love BoiBoi from around the world... requesting any amount you can provide to BoiBoi so she can save her eyesight, keep making her "heart-made" bread, and sharing her smile and songs.
